for a beginner you be in want of a larger tank, around 55 gallons to be sucessful. the smaller the tank the harder it will be and the more of an expert you have to be.

yes, any HOB filters can be worn on freshwater and saltwater. i would change the media to a mixture of chemical,ammonia, and phosophate remover in the chemical media.
